The stunning 17th century Rawla Narlai
Actor Malaika Arora, known for her fashion quotient and fitness, is on a getaway to Rawla Narlai, a 17th-century heritage retreat nestled in the village of Narlai in Rajasthan’s Pali district.
Launched in 1996 by late Maharaj Swaroop Singh and Rani Usha Devi from the royal family of Jodhpur, as one of the country’s first heritage hotels, the property, surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Aravalli Hills, is known for its old-world charm, immersive experiences, and deep-rooted connection to the region’s culture and community.
Rawla Narlai''s famous stepwell
A favourite place for slow, meaningful travel, the retreat’s blend of seclusion, authenticity, and curated culinary, wellness, and outdoor experiences makes it an ideal setting for Malaika’s escape.
Malaika’s mornings begin with a signature sunrise breakfast perched atop a hillock, overlooking 850-million-year-old granite rock formations and the region’s striking biodiversity. She is also exploring guided leopard safaris led by expert naturalists, offering a chance to witness the big cats in the rugged terrain of the Aravallis.

Among the highlights of her visit is the property’s famed stepwell dinner – an extraordinary five-course traditional Rajasthani dining experience accompanied by local folk music. Set at an 11th-century stepwell, the space is illuminated by hundreds of candles and brought to life through a ritual that takes four men and nearly four hours to prepare.
Staying in the expansive, 2,000 sq ft Narlai Suite (there are 30 rooms and suites), her stay has its share of indulgent moments – from relaxing spa therapies to an alfresco lunch set beneath an ancient banyan tree, as well as a serene high tea by the lake, where the sun dips into the horizon, casting golden reflections across the water.
