Computer giant Dell reveals two of its latest, streamlined XPS laptops – packed with a creative punch, and just raring to go, for content creators worldwide.
The largest screen of its type - the Dell XPS 15When Dell revealed its two new XPS laptops last week, digital creators across the world heaved a collective sigh. Thin, beautifully crafted in aluminium, carbon fibre, glass fibre and Gorilla Glass, and at the forefront of innovation with InfinityEdge displays, thermal design, miniscule cameras, both of these sleek new additions to the XPS family keep the creative content maker in mind to meet their high expectations. “Use is driving change,” says Justin Lyles, Vice President, Advanced Design, Dell Technologies, in a special Zoom unveil from the United States. “Our focus is on the millennials, who expect authenticity – and by that, I mean social responsibility – feeling in control, and are creators who want to feel smart, with aspirations and a voice that is unique and stylish.”
Two years of hard work has culminated in the launch of these new beauties to the XPS series by Dell. “What XPS has done, is enhance the experience of the user,” says Justin. “Our developers represent us – creators who like to express themselves. We build trust and aim to inspire our user. Our goal is to make the best PC in the industry – one that is portable, powerful, and performs beautifully.”
Designed to impress - the Dell XPS 13The XPS 13: Power and Beauty
If you look at the chassis, it is durable – and made of authentic, premium materials. The XPS 13 is cut from a block of aluminium in two pieces, so it’s more durable than a machine that’s pieced together. 100 percent of an XPS enclosure is sculpted by CNC (computer numerical control) machining process. Corning® Gorilla® Glass 6 is bonded to the aluminium, and is tough, damage resistant, durable and elegant. The gleaming, double-anodized side edges are diamond cut, while the dark carbon fibre interiors contrasting with the arctic white woven glass fibre ensure strength and weight.
One of the most incredible features is the 91.5 percent screen to body ratio. The designers at Dell have squeezed a 13.4-inch screen into the size of an 11-inch laptop, so that one can have a large screen in a tiny footprint. There’s an edge-to-edge keyboard, a larger touchpad – so the design puts a focus on elevating the essential. The streamlined design embeds a fingerprint reader in the power button, allowing for the creation of the new edge-to-edge keyboard. The twin-coil press fit hinge is designed to maximize the screen to body ratio and enable 4-sided InfinityEdge. It also allows for one-handed open design and reduces the cut out at the top of the palm rest for an even cleaner look.
Inside, technological marvels lurk. The XPS 13 features Intel’s latest 10th gen 10nm processors, GORE™ Thermal Insulation, which provides thermal conductivity levels lower than air in a thin, flexible format to help keep components cool. A built in sensor allows you to open the lid and power up in milliseconds, no matter what power-state you are in. Plus, with Windows Hello and a fingerprint reader built into the power button you can log in with just a touch. 18 hours, 49 minutes* of battery life, Wi-Fi 6 technology, the Killer AX1650 is nearly three times as fast as that of the previous generation.
The screen: A 4K Ultra HD+ (3200 x 2400) display boasts 90 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut and 1500:1 contrast ratio for stunning clarity and vivid, accurate colour. The 4K UHD+ VESA certified DisplayHDR™ 400 panel enables over 16 million colours, so you see more of what you see in real life. Both panels are Dolby Vision™ certified. That means that whatever HDR content you are viewing will have more depth and colour range than a standard SDR display. Colours will pop, brights are brighter, and darks are darker. The Eyesafe® display intelligently manages light energy at the source – selectively reducing harmful blue light . Waves MaxxAudio® Pro boosts volume and clarifies every tone, so you experience studio-quality sound. There’s a tiny 2.25mm infrared HD webcam at the top, perfectly discreet, for those Skype and video calls!
Carbon fibre alert - the Dell XPS 13Use Windows Hello to securely log on to your laptop. The fingerprint reader is integrated into the power button. The XPS 13 responds to your voice from up to 14 feet away, thanks to four built-in mics. Two Thunderbolt™ 3 multi-use Type-C ports allow you to charge your laptop, connect to multiple devices (including support for up to two 4K displays) and enjoy data transfers up to 40Gbps.
Hello, recyclability. It’s no surprise that 90 percent of the laptop’s parts can be easily recycled or reused, and the white bamboo packaging trays are. The new XPS 13 packaging solution is clean, simple and more premium, enhancing the consumer unboxing experience.
“The XPS 13 is perfect for daily use, and brings watching movies, curating your Instagram, FaceTiming, multitasking, to the fore,” says Justin. “It’s bright, vibrant, and premium.” Just like its user.
A content creator's dream - the Dell XPS 15The XPS 15: Designed for Creativity
“The new XPS 15 has been designed with creators in mind,” says Justin. “So it’s perfect for artists, influencers, those who create audio/video content. The quad speakers are powerful, and the 4K ultra high resolution display – make the perfect canvas for creators.”
This laptop has an evolved, modern design. By maximizing experiential elements – such as a bigger display, larger keycaps and a larger touchpad – the design puts a focus on elevating the essential. There are more pixels, that make for a larger screen. The 16:10 display is 5 percent larger than before, in a 5.6 percent smaller size, designed to make users more productive.
The streamlined design embeds a fingerprint reader in the power button. Keycaps are 9.7 percent larger, with less lattice and the touchpad is an incredible 62 percent larger than before. The XPS 15 is cut from a block of aluminium in two pieces, so it’s more durable than a machine that’s pieced together. So 100 percent of an XPS enclosure is sculpted by the CNC (computer numerical control) machining process. Corning® Gorilla® Glass 6 is bonded to the aluminium, and is tough, damage resistant, durable, and elegant.
The new XPS 15 delivers high performance in the same thermal envelope as before, but in an 8 percent thinner design thanks in part to thermal engineering. A vision and work in progress for the last five to seven years has been achieved with the new 4-sided InfinityEdge display, reducing the bottom bezel significantly on the redesigned XPS 15. Aerospace-inspired carbon fibre used in the design of the black palm rest allow for maximum strength and minimal weight, plus superior heat-resistance to the palm rest. The XPS logo on the base is laser cut out of a sheet of stainless steel and dropped into the machine-cut outline by hand.
Powerful and slim - the Dell XPS 15The new XPS 15 is the perfect balance of power and portability, with an unrivalled immersive visual and sound experience. Whether you are streaming, editing photos or creating your next masterpiece, the XPS 15 has the power to move your ideas into reality. The stunning 4-sided InfinityEdge display is a 16:10 aspect ratio, making this 15.6” display five percent larger than before. That is almost one million more pixels, designed to enable more productivity. With an 92.9 percent screen-to-body ratio, your view is all beautiful screen. With up to 4K Ultra HD+ (3840 x 2400) resolution, enjoy precise detail and sharp images. Moreoever, 100 percent Adobe RGB and 94 percent DCI P3 colour gamut on UHD+ delivers saturated, bright and accurate colour, especially important for creators. The touch display has a 0.65 percent anti-reflective coating, so you have a beautiful glossy screen without the glare for working outside or in bright indoor light. The 2.25mm infrared webcam lets you communicate on video calls with perfect ease.
The 4K UHD+ VESA certified DisplayHDR™ 400 panel enables over 16 million colours, so you see more of what you see in real life. Both panels are Dolby Vision™ certified. Packed with staggering performance typically only available from desktops, 10th Gen Intel® Core™ processors bring desktop-calibre creativity to your laptop. It makes it easier to capture, edit and share photos and 4K videos faster than ever before.
The GeForce® GTX 1650 Ti laptops are built with the breakthrough graphics performance of the award-winning GeForce GPUs. Killer™ AX1650 built on Intel WiFi 6 Chipset: Featuring advanced Wi-Fi 6 technology, the Killer AX1650 is nearly three times as fast as the previous generation of 80MHz 2x2 AC products.
Soundwise, a high speed laser drilled 4532 holes to support two primary up firing speakers, plus two traditional tweeters in the base. The quad speaker design enables a more immersive audio experience and discrete Waves Nx® 3D audio experience only offered before through headphones. With Waves Nx® Speakers, sound leaps out of your laptop speakers and expands into an immersive 3D soundscape. Top-mounted mics provide a better audio experience in Skype conference calls with echo cancellation and noise reduction. i5 processor, 512GB SSD and 16GB memory. The XPS 15 still has a full SD card slot for transferring files seamlessly from your camera to your laptop. And stay unplugged on the go with up to 21 hours* of battery life on a FHD+ config, the longest in a 15-inch laptop.
Recognized by CES with a "2018 Best of Innovation Award," the XPS 15’s molded trays are a step beyond recycled. Twenty-five percent of the material consists of ocean plastics collected from coastal areas, while the remaining 75 percent is made up of other recycled plastics. The new XPS 2020 packaging solution is clean, simple and more premium, enhancing the unboxing experience (something that’s become a bit of a fad with YouTubers today!).
When asked what came first when ideating during the design process – form or function – Justin says, “We never want to be out of balance. At Dell, we don’t want to compromise. We make sure that the experience of the product is in harmony with balance. We believe in form and function in the right way, in the right balance.” Sounds pretty harmonious to us.

Lifestyle Insider is a showcase of all that is beautiful and luxe. Behind every creation, is a designer, chef, entrepreneur, or a design maison. I have delved into my own appreciation for objetsde luxe that I have admired over the years – be it a love of fashion from the world’s top Parisian and Italian fashion maisons and their ’90s muses, or the care that goes into sari and Indian textile collections in my own family. Growing up on four continents, as the daughter of a former Indian Ambassador, I’ve seen a remarkable array of historic places and met a myriad people. My aim is to bring my world view into this website, a curation of what I find particularly stunning, unique, and newsworthy.
It’s an exciting time for brands all over the world. With change comes opportunity. With the global ‘reset’ and uncertainty on many fronts, there is a chance to write a new script. Let’s be those pioneers.
